we kick off our team coverage in tampa where eric sandoval is joining us. >> reporter: one in particular got close to donald trump on stage. it was a half hearted attempt to leap toward the stage. there were secret service, security all over the place. in some cases, back-to-back, watching this crowd. other than him, there were four other protesters. they were removed very quickly as well. the crowd started chanting "trump, trump, trump" over and over again. and people were taken out. that's not the story, though. what did take the stories today, sarah palin showed up unexpectedly. she was not supposed to be here. her husband was in a snowmobiling accident.

and then chris christie showed up and the third surprise with a florida attorney general pam bondi, who just today announced her support of donald trump. trump took the stage and hit the usual talking points which the crowd loved and he told people the reason he's doing this, he says he doesn't have to, he's doing it for them. >> believe me, i didn't need this. i like mar largo. place. this is not the easiest thing to do. i could have had a nice soft life. i'm doing this because i want to put back, because i want to put back. >> reporter: and people seem to like that very much as you saw. in fact, there were some 5,000 people at the front of the entrance to this convention center who also tried to get into this rally.

that's on top of the several thousand people inside this room, at least several thousands. donald trump is expecting a huge win tomorrow night and the polls as we know are showing that. >> lisa: our team coverage continues now with one of the men who hopes to take down donald trump. >> matt: marco rubio rallied supporters at a restaurant outside melbourne this afternoon. what did rubio say to the crowd? >> reporter: well, it was a huge crowd that was out here earlier. not too long ago, hundreds of people were here, trying to gather together for rubio to support him. this is a restaurant he first stopped during his successful 2010. he came back today, hoping it will once again prove successful

clinton is looking to secure her win here in florida with a little help from her husband. >> lisa: president bill clinton will be at rawlins college tonight to campaign for his wife. news 6 reporter eric sandoval continues our coverage from winter park. >> reporter: we tracked where hillary clinton and bernie sanders were this evening. they're in some of the other states having primaries today. they're ending the night in chicago. right behind me, you can see volunteers are setting up for this bill clinton rally for his wife. you can also see the secret service setting up for the sweep here. bill clinton's job here tonight is to rally support, to rally people to get to the polls. support is one thing. voting is completely another. let's look at hillary clinton's support right now. the latest quinnipiac showing hillary clinton taking all the state's 214 delegates. 34% plan to vote for bernie clinton. that's if they go to the polls

>> matt: well, severe weather caused some serious problems for those in the northeast today. this was the scene in new jersey this morning. flooding caused a sinkhole that swallowed up a car here. you can see the car just down in that hole. crews spent hours cleaning up this mess. luckily no one was hurt. >> lisa: two orlando police cars crash into each other. one of those cars flipped on its side. investigators are working to learn exactly what caused this crash. this was the scene early this morning at l.b. mcleod road and surfside way. both officers were on their way to a traffic stop when they collided. crews shut down the intersection for more than an hour while they cleaned up the mess. one of the officers had minor injuries but both will be okay. a rocket lifts off on a journey that could make history. >> matt: next at 5:00, what researchers hope to find as a new probe heads off to mars. and a local iconic fast-food attraction is back.

the statewide unemployment rate dropped slightly to 5% in january, down from 5.1% in december and 5.7% a year ago. orlando's jobless rate went up in january to 4.7%. it's .3 of a percent higher than december but it is down sharply from the beginning of 2015. >> a big step in the search for signs of life on mars. >> matt: the european space agency started a probe of the red planet. this is expected to reach mars in october. the small lander will put the rovers on mars' surface in 2018.
